Getting started

What is Vestry?

Vestry is a virtual try-on app for Shopify stores, by FortyTwo Venture GmbH in Switzerland. It adds a Try it on button to your product pages. A shopper uploads a photo of themselves and sees an AI-made preview of your product on them, in a fitting room that opens on the product page.

Who can use Vestry?

Vestry is offered to stores located in the United States, and only shoppers in the United States see the try-on (Terms, section 2). It is for adults: don't offer the try-on for products, collections or stores aimed at people under 18.

How do I set it up?

Install Vestry from the Shopify App Store and open it in your admin. A short setup guide takes you through choosing a plan, adding the Try it on button to your theme, picking a look for the fitting room (on the Design page, with a phone-sized preview of what shoppers get), the optional email step and the products that show the button. You can change each of these later on the Design, Settings and Products pages.

How does the button get onto my product pages?

Through Vestry's theme app extension, named "Vestry Try-On" in the theme editor. On most themes you add it as an app block and drag it where you want it; by default it matches your theme's Add to cart button. On a vintage theme that can't hold app blocks, switch on the app embed instead: it places the button above Add to cart by itself. No theme code is changed. Shoppers see the button once you have chosen a plan.

Can I choose which products show the button?

Yes. On the Products page you show it on every product, or only on the collections and products you pick, and you can exclude products and collections. In Settings you can also show it only to shoppers signed in to your store, and choose which product image Vestry uses as the garment photo.

How try-on works

What does the shopper see, and how accurate is it?

The shopper taps Try it on, agrees to the photo terms, chooses or takes a photo, and gets the preview in the fitting room. The preview follows the colour the shopper picked. From the result they can add the item to the cart.

The images are AI-made previews and can be wrong: colour and drape may differ, and every size looks the same. They don't show size or fit, so don't present them as accurate. Every image is labeled "AI-generated" and carries an invisible AI marker.

What is Studio?

Studio is in your Vestry admin and lets you try the try-on yourself, with your own photo or the photo of someone who gave written consent. Never upload a shopper's photo. Studio photos and their results are deleted within 24 hours.

Can I limit how often a shopper tries on?

Yes. In Settings, under Limits, you set how many try-ons one shopper gets per day or per week. Until you change it, the limit is 6 a week. A shopper who reaches it is asked to come back later.

What is the email step?

An optional step, off by default. When you switch it on in Settings, the fitting room asks the shopper for their email before the first try-on or after a number of free ones you choose. The email becomes a customer in your store, tagged with the products they tried on. They get marketing emails only if they tick the box. You are responsible for that choice and for the marketing you send (Terms, section 5.2).

What does the Analytics page show?

Figures from your store's try-ons: how many try-ons, how many shoppers, how many try-ons were followed by adding the item to the cart, and the emails collected by the email step, compared with the period before. Vestry has no access to your orders, so it does not show orders or revenue.

Pricing and billing

How much does Vestry cost?

The plans, what each includes and the free trial are shown on Vestry's Shopify App Store listing and on the Plans & billing page in the app. Shopify bills you, on your Shopify invoice. We give 30 days' notice of a price increase.

What happens when my plan's try-ons are used up?

Each plan includes a number of try-ons per billing period. Beyond them, extra try-ons are charged per try-on. You set your own spending limit for extra try-ons on Plans & billing: Vestry emails you at 75 % and 90 % of it, and when it is reached the try-on pauses until the next period. Studio try-ons count toward your plan's try-ons once Studio's free ones are used.

What happens when I uninstall?

The try-on stops at once, and shopper photos and try-on images are deleted at once. Everything else is deleted within 30 days, except the billing records and the install record, which Swiss law requires us to keep for 10 years. Uninstalling also ends billing through Shopify.

Privacy and data

How long does Vestry keep shopper photos?

Vestry keeps shopper photos and try-on images at most 24 hours. Our own deletion runs before 24 hours, with a storage rule as a backup, and our backups contain no photos or images. A shopper can delete them sooner with "Delete my photos" in the fitting room.

A note on AI model providers: the photo and the product image go through our AI partners, OpenRouter and fal, to the AI model that makes the image. The AI model providers keep their own standard retention for abuse monitoring, and they never train on the photos. All partners are listed at /subprocessors/.

Do I, the merchant, see shoppers' photos?

No. Your store never sees a shopper's photo or try-on images, and no one on our team looks at them. No one uses the photo to recognize anyone: we create no face templates and match no faces (Biometric policy).

Who is responsible for shopper data, and what must I do?

You are the controller for your shoppers' data and Vestry is your processor, under the data processing agreement in our Terms. Tell your shoppers about the fitting room in your privacy policy; our merchant privacy snippet helps. The fitting room links to our How we use your photo page and to your own privacy policy.
